1000MW Coal Based Power Plant

A MoU has been signed between NLC and TNEB to implement a 1000MW coal based power plant in Tuticorin.NLC will hold the major share in it.
OCT 2005:
Recently Tuti Port and NLC signed an Mou where Port provides land for plant and housing colony construction .Work is believed to start in the mid of 2006.

Shriram,SPIC plan Rs 1,000-cr JV for coke oven in Tuticorin
(estimated cost:1000-cr)
Leo Energy Corporation has been floated for implementing this project.The project is designed to help Spic in getting an assured supply of low cost gas released from conversion of coking coal into coke.It is expected to save 30-100Cr Rs for spic fertilizer plant in Tuticorin.

There is huge demand for candles in the international market especially in the US and Europe. Ramesh flowers have presence in these countries through huge departmental stores like `Walmart' and British Home Stores. Leveraging on this, the company will start exporting candles.

Tuticorin - Colombo Ferry Service
Political unrest in Srilanka and Chief minister of Tamilnadu fearing the security threat, has stalled the proceedings of the ferry service between Tuti and Colombo.

Tuticorin SEZ
A CONCEPT paper prepared by the Tuticorin Port Trust on developing a port-based special economic zone (SEZ) has identified proximity to a port, climate and location as advantages for locating industries in agro and food processing, logistics, heavy engineering and mineral ore handling in the proposed zone.

The port trust has submitted the concept paper to the State Government, which will take it up with the Centre for approval.

NEERI is currently doing the feasibility study of this project.Much awaited project for the people in this region.It is expected to boost the economy in this region.

The dream project: Work is been started and it will be a great boon for the southern districts of Tamil Nadu..

Under Ground Drainage
(estimated cost:46.40cr)

The project will commence in January 2006and completed in a year 12 lift stations, two trunk sewer stations and a sewage treatment plant would be established

The entire town will be divided into 19 zones and the sewage collected from each zone would be pumped into a well before being taken to the sewage treatment plant.

Sewage drained through the system would be treated using anaerobic method and the municipal administration would construct two anaerobic ponds, three facultative ponds and three maturation ponds for the purpose

Note:Tuticorin being the first municipality to implement UGD 25 yrs back which failed. (last update:Nov-2005)

Children's Traffic Park
(Rs.30lakh)

children's traffic park at the cost of Rs 30 lakh would be constructed opposite to VOC college in the Palayamkottai road.

The construction of the park occupying an area of about 16 acres would be partially met (one third of the cost) by the traffic department and the remaining Rs 20 lakh would be mobilised by way of public contribution.
